Available services

We provide a variety of upholstery and furniture-related services in the following areas:
-
The current fabric covering the piece is removed and the new selection applied; the inner layers remain as is. Good for newer or modern pieces lacking significant wear and tear.
-
A stop beyond a basic recovering; this involves supplementing or in small areas replacing the inner foam and/or batting layers to make a sturdy, supportive and comfortable piece.
-
The entire piece is stripped of everything all the way down to the bare frame. It is then constructed back to the new fabric with new materials. Ideal for old, antique, and well-travelled pieces.
-
If a cushion or seat has begun to sag or has lost its support over time, it may need refilling or a new foam core.
Reupholstery & Recovering
Woodwork & Frame/structure
-
The frame is inspected and then supplemented with new joining or support pieces strategically placed to correct sagging, swaying, and similar issues that develop over time in wood-frame furniture.
-
All joints in the piece are opened, the old glue is removed to create a new and even surface, and a new coating of glue is applied before reassembly.
-
Intricate details and features of wooden frame pieces are cleaned or when necessary filled, sanded, and reattached.
-
Old varnishes and stains are completely removed, the surface sanded smooth again, and then restained and topcoated as desired.
-
Depending on the depth of the marks, the top-most layers of finish can be removed and/or sanded smooth and then recoated to remove or reduce surface scratches.
-
If a piece has lost its luster and protection from an old and deteriorated topcoat, this can be fixed by removing and reapplying the protective clear topcoat.
Refinishing, Stain, & Coatings

Restoration
-
Careful research is put into identifying possible origins and ages of pieces undergoing more extensive service. This information is used to properly restore old wood and finishes as well as provide interesting historical background for the piece.
-
Old furniture and their finishes can often be delicate or deteriorated; extreme care and handling is used during a restore to prevent further damage, and to preserve the integrity of the original aspects of the piece.
Repairs & Restitching
-
Repair of underlying structural breaks that cause arms to wobble, backs to sag, and so on. Reattaching legs, replacing chipped or broken trim, and straightening warping frame pieces.
-
Carefully sewing any burst seams back together after replacing any filler material that may have spilled. Also applies to repairing decorative or visible top-stitching that has pulled or broken over time.
-
Leather and vinyl “pleather” can be prone to showing marks, cuts, scratches and creases. These can all be improved if not fixed completely with careful attention and treatment to those materials.
